Outside on a hot summer day a little girl stands pool side. Toes curled defiantly on the edge, reflection in the water blinking back, uncertain.
Never been into water this deep before
she wonders if she can do it
what if its freezing?
toe-tested. its great. perfect even
She hopes she can do it. hold your breathe. be safe. once your in, head for the surface.

She exhales like she's seen so many experts do and with bent knees leaps from the pools edge.
In the air she forms a ball, the most protecting form against the unknown and with a 'Whoosh!' and a chilling shock, Little girl feels the sudden rush of cold silence then is instantly warm.
Every limb in every direction, feel the water everywhere wrapped around the every inch. every toe, behind the ears, the most enveloping feeling. Suddenly you feel weightless and happy. Peaceful and happy.
she bobbed up to the waters surface, to the side of the pool, up the ladder and out.
She blinked her eyes at the pool; Glassy in the afternoon light
speechless.
even in her own head. without understanding how or why, she walked
